What I do

Streatham

Streatham is where I grew up, and is a vibrant, diverse, and growing community. It is tied together by Streatham High Road, an important business hub and Europe’s longest High Street. Streatham has benefited from its diversity with a growing cultural scene including film, food, and arts festivals supported by the inStreatham business improvement district.

Visiting the Black Cultural Archives to meet with their leadership and discuss how to secure their future.

Great to meet Rene from Lambeth Friends of the Earth today and delighted to support the Friends of the Earth in their campaign to crackdown on plastic pollution.

I voted against the government’s Brexit position in the Commons, who were defeated by 45 votes, and voted for the SNP’s amendment that would have extended Article 50 by 3 months to avoid No Deal.

Anna Soubry and I tabled this important amendment to the PM’s Brexit motion that would force Ministers to publish the most recent Cabinet briefing on the affects of a ‘no deal’ Brexit on business & trade.

Thanking staff at the People’s Vote campaign for all their hard work and dedication over the last 10 months. My constituents want the people to get the final say on Brexit!

Today I attended another Serious Violence Taskforce meeting at the Home Office. I’m making sure those affected by knife crime and youth violence are heard at the top tables of government.

It was a pleasure being interviewed by Daisy for her school magazine. She was a natural with great questions! It was a pleasure being interviewed by Daisy for her school magazine. She was a natural with great questions!

This morning I attended the School & Family Works Showcase, a social enterprise that delivers multi-family therapy to support children, families and schools to achieve long lasting change.

I was honoured to be invited to the Inside Government Social Integration conference as their keynote speaker. We need to bridge the divides in our society through integration projects and proper funding.

Sarah Wollaston announcement

Ahead of the votes in Parliament on the Brexit deal, People’s Vote supporting colleagues and I appealed to Jeremy Corbyn to back giving the public their final say over Brexit.

Constructive meeting with the government and People’s Vote MP supporters. An opportunity to present our case, and Ministers acknowledged an A50 extension could only be for explicit purpose, not just indecision.

It was a pleasure to visit Streatham High Street’s newest small business Yogarise London! Yoga classes, a gym, Baby Spinach Cafe and a great team who will be a welcome addition to the community. Check them out!
