What I do

Streatham

Streatham is where I grew up, and is a vibrant, diverse, and growing community. It is tied together by Streatham High Road, an important business hub and Europe’s longest High Street. Streatham has benefited from its diversity with a growing cultural scene including film, food, and arts festivals supported by the inStreatham business improvement district.

I spoke in Angela Smith’s Westminster Hall debate in favour of Proportional Representation in UK elections. Our main parties are broken and we need to fix the system.

Change UK launched our European Election campaign with the unequivocal vow to support a People’s Vote and champion our membership of the European Union.

My Independent Group colleagues and I voted in favour of Yvette Cooper’s bill to extend Article 50 to avoid a No Deal Brexit, which successfully passed into law.

Dropped by Savva’s Barbers to catch up with Aran and his team on Streatham High Road, a staple of the high street and great small business in Streatham.

Really enjoyed my visit to Julian’s Primary School, taking some great questions and being shown round by pupils. The school are doing a great job, thanks for the warm welcome!

I attended a Serious Youth Violence Summit in Number 10 to discuss with the Government how we can tackle the youth violence and knife crime that is blighting our streets in Lambeth and across the UK.

Just been through the House of Commons division lobby voting ‘NO’ to the Prime Minister’s flawed Brexit deal with Angela Smith and our The Independent Group colleagues.

I wrote to Openreach on behalf of residents on Crickdale Avenue who have been told that there are no plans to upgrade their internet access to superfast broadband despite the capability to do so already existing.

Casting my ballot in today’s Indicative Votes on Brexit: backing a People’s Vote and Article 50 revocation!

Delighted to attend the People’s Vote Put It To The People March with 1 million people from across the UK, and alongside fellow MPs from The Independent Group!

It was a privilege to be able to visit the Gaia Centre today, who do incredible work supporting victims of domestic violence across Lambeth. We have one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the country, and Gaia are a model for how such services are run across the UK.

Dropping in on Cafe Barcelona today on Streatham High Road. A great local business and a credit to the high street!
