What I do

Streatham is where I grew up, and is a vibrant, diverse, and growing community. It is tied together by Streatham High Road, an important business hub and Europe’s longest High Street. Streatham has benefited from its diversity with a growing cultural scene including film, food, and arts festivals supported by the inStreatham business improvement district.

It was a pleasure to meet David from the Friends of Streatham Hill Theatre to talk about community efforts to save the venue and next steps!

I voted against Theresa May’s Brexit deal in the Commons, helping to inflict a historic defeat. We now need a People’s Vote.

It was a pleasure to address the People’s Vote campaign’s Decision Day Live rally in Parliament Square, ahead of the vote on May’s Brexit deal. It is the only way to avoid a No Deal Brexit and break the impasse.

I chaired an All Party Parliamentary Group on Social Integration meeting to continue working on our interim report on intergenerational connections.

I attended a meeting of the Home Secretary’s Serious Violence Taskforce, to bring local concerns and expertise to policy on youth violence and knife crime.

The divisiveness of another referendum campaign will be nothing compared to the divisiveness of falling out of the EU without a deal. Proud to speak to a gathering of People’s Vote supporters in Labour.

I voted with opposition parties and Tory rebels to force government to take steps to stop a No Deal Brexit in amendments to the Finance Bill.

Colleagues from across the House of Commons and I held a meeting with the Prime Minister following a cross party letter calling on government to rule out a No Deal Brexit.

Love the Christmas card from Prostate Cancer UK. I’m proud to be one of their patrons and to support their vital work.

Delighted to receive my copy of the Young Fabians ‘A Nation Divided’ pamphlet on social, economic, and cultural integration – including my forward on immigration and integration.

In the House of Commons this afternoon I told the Prime Minister that her Brexit deal has no chance of passing and that only a People’s Vote can break the impasse.

In Streatham to catch up with Simon Gates, Archdeacon of Lambeth, and talk about the work of our ⁦local Church of England⁩ churches.
