Chuka Umunna will be joining the board of leading UK software company, Advanced, from 1 June 2020, having joined Artificial Intelligence company, Signal AI, as an advisor, and the board of fintech firm, Digital Identity Net earlier this year.
He is working with the leaderships of all three companies to help build value in the long term for investors and shareholders, in addition to delivering for other stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and society as whole.
Umunna, a solicitor, is a former corporate employment lawyer who previously worked for serval years at City law firm Herbert Smith Freehills LLP advising companies on contentious, transactional (M&A etc) and advisory matters including employment litigation, industrial relations, remuneration and incentives, and workplace health and safety.
From 2010-2019 he served in the UK House of Commons, including as Shadow Business Secretary for several years and in other senior posts leading on economic, business, trade and foreign policy issues on the Opposition benches. During this time in Parliament he co-founded Small Business Saturday in the UK and helped lead the successful campaign against the hostile takeover of AstraZeneca by Pfizer.
He has been a leading advocate of the stakeholder capitalism agenda, regularly giving major speeches to the CBI and other business groups on the topic, and a proponent of more diversity in the boardroom.
Umunna is also a contributor at Forbes, the business magazine, where he now writes about business and economic policy, and how environmental, social and governance factors (“ESG”) are impacting on companies.
