What I do

Streatham

Streatham is where I grew up, and is a vibrant, diverse, and growing community. It is tied together by Streatham High Road, an important business hub and Europe’s longest High Street. Streatham has benefited from its diversity with a growing cultural scene including film, food, and arts festivals supported by the inStreatham business improvement district.

TIG amendment

My Change UK colleagues and I teamed up with the Liberal Democrats to table an amendment that would have forced the government to hold a People’s Vote on Brexit.

People's Vote March

Delighted to attend the People’s Vote Put It To The People March with 1 million people from across the UK, and alongside fellow MPs from The Independent Group!

Gaia Centre

It was a privilege to be able to visit the Gaia Centre today, who do incredible work supporting victims of domestic violence across Lambeth. We have one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the country, and Gaia are a model for how such services are run across the UK.

Cafe Barcelona

Dropping in on Cafe Barcelona today on Streatham High Road. A great local business and a credit to the high street!

Waterloo campaigning

I joined Lambeth in Europe outside Waterloo station reminding people to join the People’s Vote March and call on government to give the people the opportunity to stay in the EU!

David Lidington

Anna Soubry and I met with Minister for the Cabinet Office David Lidington to discuss Brexit, our desire for a public vote, and the impact a hard Brexit would have on Streatham.

Workplace Sexual Harassment

It was great to speak with my constituent Julia this afternoon about how we can improve legislation to prevent workplace sexual harassment and the This Is Not Working campaign.

Henry Cavendish

Great to visit Henry Cavendish this afternoon to talk to the School Council, Eco Team and Rights Respecting Ambassadors. Lots of great questions about politics and the environment!

Prep Q

I have written to the Secretary of State for Health asking what his department are doing to ensure we eliminate new HIV transmissions by 2030.

TIG Amendment MV2

The Independent Group and I tabled an amendment to May’s deal that would provide for indicative votes in Parliament on Brexit options, and an extension to Article 50 long enough to hold a People’s Vote.

High Trees Reception

Celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the wonderful High Trees Community Development Trust in Parliament. Here’s to another 20 years of great community services and support!

Rosena Spring Statement Letter

Pleased to add my name to my neighbour Dr Rosena Allin-Khan’s excellent cross-party letter to the Chancellor demanding more police funding ahead of the Spring Statement.
