What I do

Streatham

Streatham is where I grew up, and is a vibrant, diverse, and growing community. It is tied together by Streatham High Road, an important business hub and Europe’s longest High Street. Streatham has benefited from its diversity with a growing cultural scene including film, food, and arts festivals supported by the inStreatham business improvement district.

Campaigning in St Leonard's

Knights Youth Club

Went to Knights Youth Club last night to catch up with everyone – we simply do not have enough of this kind of excellent provision for our young people outside school hours.

Streatham Job Centre

Visited Streatham Job Centre today. A big thanks to the staff there for all the hard work they do to support people back into work.

Lambeth Equality Commission

A privilege to chair Lambeth’s Equality Commission public meeting in Streatham last night – it was the biggest turnout at a commission meeting so far – lots of really interesting conversations.

Visiting flooding victims

Visiting constituents who have been flooded from the burst water main on Leigham Vale – including the amazing Sidney Carter who told me about his life in Jamaica before moving to the UK in the 1950s.

Clapham Park Foodbank

I dropped off some food at Clapham Park foodbank. It is a damning indictment of six years of Tory government that, in one of the wealthiest cities in the world, constituents of mine have to rely on food banks.

School Christmas Fairs

Loved visiting primary schools across Streatham for their annual Christmas Fairs.

Employment tribunal fees

Speaking out against employment tribunal fees that are denying thousands of people access to justice in the workplace.

EDM - 775 Children's Funeral Costs

I’ve added my name this Early Day Motion (EDM) which highlights the real financial burden of children’s funerals on bereaved parents, and calls on the Government to establish a specific fund to cover this cost.
