What I do

Clapham

The Streatham constituency contains the eastern side of Clapham across to the Common itself, including Clapham Park Estate, Lambeth Academy, and Thornton.

Clapham is a vibrant community and has undergone significant regeneration and investment in housing and on the high street in recent years. The Common remains a popular destination for tourists and locals.

Opposition Leaders Statement

Change UK colleagues and I joined forces with the Remain-backing Opposition parties to table a cross-party amendment calling for a People’s Vote on the Brexit deal.

Youth Violence Summit

I attended a Serious Youth Violence Summit in Number 10 to discuss with the Government how we can tackle the youth violence and knife crime that is blighting our streets in Lambeth and across the UK.

Withdrawal Agreement

Just been through the House of Commons division lobby voting ‘NO’ to the Prime Minister’s flawed Brexit deal with Angela Smith and our The Independent Group colleagues.

RSE EDM

I’ve signed an Early Day Motion calling for comprehensive LGBT-inclusive Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) to be implemented and protected in schools.

Indicative Votes

Casting my ballot in today’s Indicative Votes on Brexit: backing a People’s Vote and Article 50 revocation!

Times Plus

I appeared at a Times Plus event to explain why I left the Labour Party, helped to set up The Independent Group, and the impact that Brexit would have on communities like mine in Streatham.

Q to PM 2603

Given the repeated failure to pass her deal, I asked the Prime Minister to commit to enacting Parliament’s will on Brexit, even if it meant holding a People’s Vote. She refused to do so.

TIG amendment

My Change UK colleagues and I teamed up with the Liberal Democrats to table an amendment that would have forced the government to hold a People’s Vote on Brexit.

People's Vote March

Delighted to attend the People’s Vote Put It To The People March with 1 million people from across the UK, and alongside fellow MPs from The Independent Group!

Gaia Centre

It was a privilege to be able to visit the Gaia Centre today, who do incredible work supporting victims of domestic violence across Lambeth. We have one of the highest rates of domestic violence in the country, and Gaia are a model for how such services are run across the UK.

Waterloo campaigning

I joined Lambeth in Europe outside Waterloo station reminding people to join the People’s Vote March and call on government to give the people the opportunity to stay in the EU!

David Lidington

Anna Soubry and I met with Minister for the Cabinet Office David Lidington to discuss Brexit, our desire for a public vote, and the impact a hard Brexit would have on Streatham.
