What I do

Clapham

The Streatham constituency contains the eastern side of Clapham across to the Common itself, including Clapham Park Estate, Lambeth Academy, and Thornton.

Clapham is a vibrant community and has undergone significant regeneration and investment in housing and on the high street in recent years. The Common remains a popular destination for tourists and locals.

Clearly World

A bit of fun for an important cause – 2.5 billion people suffer poor visibility without access to treatment. I was really pleased to support Clearly World’s campaign to help the world see more clearly.

House of Commons - Rail Franchising

In a House of Commons debate on rail franchising I highlighted the continued dreadful services that my constituents have endured from both Southern Rail and Thameslink.

EDM - 775 Childcare Vouchers

Pleased to add my name to Early Day Motion (EDM) 775 which calls on the Government to keep childcare vouchers – a widely-used benefit that is popular with parents and employers alike.

Streatham Job Centre

With staff at Streatham Job Centre to discuss the roll out of Universal Credit in Streatham and the impact of the closure of job centres in Lambeth.

Mete Coban

Enjoyed catching up with Mete Coban, Chief Executive of My Life My Say, about the importance of engaging with young people on Brexit.

APPG Social Integration - Evidence Session

Really enjoyed chairing today’s APPG on Social Integration’s session with the Jo Cox Commission on Loneliness – looking at how we can bring different groups together.

House of Commons - King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust

For too long we have perpetuated the myth that we can have Scandinavian levels of public services on American levels of taxation. I’ve called on the Government to set up a cross-party convention to come up with a sustainable model for the whole NHS.

APPG Social Integration - Intergenerational connection report launched

Kicking off the launch of the APPG on Social Integration’s investigation into Intergenerational connection and divides by publishing our latest essay collection.

Sixth Form Conference

Incredible to see so many at the Sixth Form Conference in Westminster today. There were hundreds of politically engaged students and a wide range of questions on Yemen, human rights and Brexit.

Christmas Lights Switch-on

Always fun to turn on the Streatham Christmas lights and this year I got to meet the one and only Ted Reilly aka Johnny Carter from Eastenders!

House of Commons - EU Withdrawal Bill

In Parliament for the debate on the EU (Withdrawal) Bill. If it becomes clear that Brexit will cause real damage to the UK we should be able to keep an open mind – Brexit can be paused or reversed if the British people want.

Remembrance Sunday

Every year on Remembrance Sunday I lay a wreath at the War Memorial alongside over 60 local organisations and groups – it is always a very moving ceremony. This year over 600 people turned out.
