What I do

Brixton

The Streatham constituency contains the southern part of Brixton. It has a longstanding reputation as a vibrant cultural and creative hub, and has also seen significant transformation and investment. Windrush Square is named after the Windrush generation – who settled in Brixton after arriving in the UK as it had the labour exchange which was closest to the accommodation provided to migrants in Clapham – and is home of the Black Cultural Archives.

Tribe

Visiting Streatham’s newest addition to the High Street, Tribe! A brand new vegan cafe, juice bar and co-working space right next to Streatham Hill station. Check them out!

Filling Station

Dropped in on The Filling Station for my morning coffee, another great local business on Streatham High Road and a favourite of mine!.

Children's Mental Health EDM

I signed EDM 2285 calling for a new Mental Health Bill to tackle the needs of children with mental health needs.

Denied My Vote

Following the huge number of EU Citizens who were denied their right to vote on polling day, I have written to the Cabinet Office calling on government to take responsibility and set out plans to prevent it ever happening again.

Woodmansterne

I visited Woodmansterne school and children’s centre to talk to students about politics, and take a tour of the great new buildings and facilities for pupils.

Mental Health PQs

On Mental Health Week, I have tabled a series of questions to ask government what it is doing to safeguard the mental health of visa applicants, civil servants, and school children.

APPG Report Take Up

I have written to Ministers following the publication of the APPG for Social Integration’s interim report on healing the generational divide, calling on government to participate in the inquiry and act to build bridges between the generations.

APPG Bath Report Launch

The All Party Parliamentary Group on Social Integration, which I chair, launched its interim report on how we heal the generational divide and tackle polarisation and loneliness.

Mental Health Week

I support the Mental Health Foundation’s work on Mental Health Week. The theme this year is #BeBodyKind encouraging us all to think about body image issues and how they effect our mental wellbeing.

Istanbul Convention

I signed EDM 2328 calling for the UK Government to adopt the Council of Europe’s Istanbul convention on violence against women and domestic violence. More must be done to protect victims.

High Street Summit 2 Brexit

I heard from local businesses about their concerns about security, crime and policing, with representatives from Streatham BID, Lambeth Council, and the Metropolitan Police.

High Street Summit 2 Brexit

I chaired the InStreatham Brexit panel with local business owners in Streatham to hear how it would impact on their businesses.
