What I do

Brixton

The Streatham constituency contains the southern part of Brixton. It has a longstanding reputation as a vibrant cultural and creative hub, and has also seen significant transformation and investment. Windrush Square is named after the Windrush generation – who settled in Brixton after arriving in the UK as it had the labour exchange which was closest to the accommodation provided to migrants in Clapham – and is home of the Black Cultural Archives.

Abortion Rights Amendment

I voted in favour of Stella Creasy’s successful amendment to the Northern Ireland Bill that requires the government to extend abortion rights to Northern Ireland.

Same Sex Marriage NI vote

I voted in favour of Conor McGinn’s successful amendment to the Northern Ireland Bill to extend same sex marriage rights to Northern Ireland if no Executive is formed before October.

Hopton Road campaigning

I knocked on doors on Hopton Road to talk to constituents about their local issues, Brexit, and youth violence in our borough.

Emma's Estate Agents

I dropped in to Emma’s Estate Agents to talk about the local housing market and how business is faring on the Streatham High Road.

King's Avenue School

I visited Kings Avenue Primary School to talk to the pupils about my job as an MP, Brexit, and the effect youth violence has on young people like them.

Pink News reception

I spoke at the Pink News Pride reception commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall and called for marriage equality to be extended to Northern Ireland.

Pride in London

I attended PMQs wearing the Pride in London badge ahead of the London Pride march on Saturday to stand for more action of LGBT+ equality

Hammond Question

Chancellor Philip Hammond confirmed to me that there would be no fiscal headroom for big tax giveaways or other promises by Tory leadership contenders, and said that a No Deal Brexit would cost £90billion.

Women's Centres EDM

I signed Early Day Motion 2522, calling for the government to commit further investment in the growth of women’s centres in the criminal justice system.

Bunk Burgers

Finally had the chance to enjoy lunch at Bunk Burgers on Streatham High Road and meet the staff. Local businesses are what makes our community so vibrant.

Sexual Health Clinic

Thank you to the team at Streatham Hill Sexual Health Clinic for the tour and discussion about the challenges facing the NHS and unique challenges facing sexual health services.

ODAK Computers and Printing

I stopped to talk to Yelden about the local economy and business in Streatham in ODAK Computing and Printing in Streatham Hill. A great local business active in the BID and at the heart of our community!
