What I do

Brixton

The Streatham constituency contains the southern part of Brixton. It has a longstanding reputation as a vibrant cultural and creative hub, and has also seen significant transformation and investment. Windrush Square is named after the Windrush generation – who settled in Brixton after arriving in the UK as it had the labour exchange which was closest to the accommodation provided to migrants in Clapham – and is home of the Black Cultural Archives.

Kashmir

I have written to the Foreign Secretary about the concerning events in Kashmir, calling for the British Government to play its part in helping to mediate and bring the conflict to a peaceful resolution.

Grieve SO24

I voted for Dominic Grieve’s motion to require the release of all communications to or from the current administration relating to the Yellowhammer No Deal Brexit analysis produced by the Government.

Flytipping

I have written to Lambeth Council with the concerns of a number of my constituents about the problem of flytipping in the area which poses a threat to health and safety.

Broadband Letter

London is not included in the current Government funding programme for superfast broadband capability across the UK. I have written to the Government to make sure London is included.

Hong Kong Question

I signed EDM 2681 calling on the Government and Commonwealth to provide Hong Kong citizens with a second citizenship and potential place of refuge in response to a violent crackdown on protests by authorities.

Benn Bill

I voted with my Liberal Democrat colleagues to pass the Hilary Benn Bill to request an extension to Article 50 if the Prime Minister fails to reach a deal at the European Council.

Prorogue Letters

Hundreds of constituents have got in touch with me appalled at Boris Johnson’s undemocratic moves to shutdown Parliament. I will do all I can to ensure Streatham’s voice is heard and oppose No Deal and Brexit altogether.

Prorogue EDM

I signed EDM 2646 opposing Boris Johnson suspending Parliament and calling for MPs to sit until November to ensure that the people’s voices are heard in the Brexit process.

Church House

I signed the Church House declaration of MPs committing to do all we can to ensure the people’s voice is heard in the Brexit process and opposing a Parliament shutdown.

Cobham Letter

I have written to Andrea Leadsom, Secretary of State for Business, calling for government to intervene in the proposed takeover of British aerospace firm Cobham by a US vulture private equity firm.

Terror victim legal aid EDM

I signed EDM 2368 calling on government to fund legal aid costs for the families of victims of terrorism, a campaign started by the family of a victim of the London Bridge attack.

Dilpasand Restaurant

I visited Dilpasand, a great new restaurant on the High Road and one of the few serving Pakistani food in Streatham, to talk about local business, and the challenges of opening a restaurant.
