A privilege to chair Lambeth’s Equality Commission public meeting in Streatham last night – it was the biggest turnout at a commission meeting so far – lots of really interesting conversations.

The Streatham constituency contains the southern part of Brixton. It has a longstanding reputation as a vibrant cultural and creative hub, and has also seen significant transformation and investment. Windrush Square is named after the Windrush generation – who settled in Brixton after arriving in the UK as it had the labour exchange which was closest to the accommodation provided to migrants in Clapham – and is home of the Black Cultural Archives.
Today I launched the APPG on Social Integration’s Interim Report into Integration of Immigrants that calls for a meaningful integration programme which works for all parts of the UK.

I’ve added my name this Early Day Motion (EDM) which highlights the real financial burden of children’s funerals on bereaved parents, and calls on the Government to establish a specific fund to cover this cost.
Following further severe disruption of Southern Rail services I urged the Government to get on with stripping Govia Thameslink Railway of the franchise and transferring it to Transport for London now.

Wearing a red ribbon to show my support for World AIDS Day. We’ve got to do more to stop HIV stigma but thankfully organisations like the Terrence Higgins Trust are doing great work on this.
