
Today I visited the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton – a vitally important institution for the African-Caribbean community in Britain – to catch up with the Director and his team.
The Streatham constituency contains the southern part of Brixton. It has a longstanding reputation as a vibrant cultural and creative hub, and has also seen significant transformation and investment. Windrush Square is named after the Windrush generation – who settled in Brixton after arriving in the UK as it had the labour exchange which was closest to the accommodation provided to migrants in Clapham – and is home of the Black Cultural Archives.

At PMQs I raised the problems facing the Black Cultural Archives – the only national heritage centre dedicated to preserving the histories of black people in our country – and called for the Government to provide the funding it desperately needs.
