  • I have strongly campaigned for and repeatedly voted to lower the voting age to give 16 and 17-year-olds the right to vote in UK elections.

I have spoken in debates in favour of Proportional Representation and I sponsored an Early Day Motion on changing the voting system in general elections. I also set up the All Party Parliamentary Group on Proportional Representation.

Voted to reform Parliament

I've voted to reform our Parliament including having an elected House of Lords. I have also supported proxy votes for MPs on maternity and paternity leave and I voted to amend the House of Commons sitting hours to make it more family-friendly.

Called for a family-friendly Parliament

In July 2012, I voted to change the House of Commons sitting hours to make Parliament more family-friendly and more accessible to Members of Parliament with children.

Voted to reform the House of Lords

In October 2016, I voted in favour of reforming the House of Lords to reduce the number of hereditary peers and replace them with elected peers.

Campaigned to safeguard devolution and local government

I have voted repeatedly to protect funding from central government to local authorities and councils to preserve the principle of devolution and strong local government.
