Campaigned for action on the climate emergency

  • I backed Parliament declaring a climate emergency; I have voted in favour of financial incentives to lower carbon production and for all greenhouse gases to have target limits; and I am committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.

Demanded measures to tackle air pollution

I've voted to tax vehicles according to their level of emissions; to reduce carbon dioxide emissions of new homes; and in favour of financial incentives for businesses to reduce carbon production.

Supported renewables and green energy

I’ve consistently voted against cutting subsidies for energy production using renewable sources and have tabled questions asking the Government about generating low-carbon electricity.

Supported renewable energy

In November 2011, I voted against cutting subsidies for electricity produced using renewable or low-carbon techniques.

Voted to reduce emissions

In June 2013, I voted in favour of setting targets for levels of carbon dioxide and all other greenhouse gases in order to rein in the amount generated per unit of electricity.

Backed a limit on carbon production

In June 2013, I voted in favour of financial incentives to encourage businesses to reduce carbon production.

Taxing high emissions vehicles

In October 2015, I voted to tax vehicles according to the emissions they produce.

Backed new regulations for energy-efficient homes

In May 2016, I voted to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide that new homes are allowed to permit in order to improve the standard of energy-efficiency in house building.

Declaring a climate emergency

In May 2019, I supported Parliament’s decision to declare a climate emergency, and was proud to be the first country in the world to do so.

Generating low-carbon electricity

In July 2019, I asked the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy what parts of the Government’s plan for generating low-carbon electricity in the event of the UK leaving the EU without a deal have been implemented.
